Attorney recognition from the legal industry is a powerful external credential for those seeking to hire a personal injury attorney.  When the legal industry recognizes the legal experience or trial skill of an attorney it helps the general public to be able to discern personal injury attorneys with genuine skill and accomplishment from the rest of the industry.  There are many false award legal marketing award companies who will provide a plaque and a “Top 10” or other type award for $250.

The preeminent awards in the legal industry and attorney recognition are offered by long standing legal entities and associations of attorneys, including:

  • Avvo
  • Martindale-Hubbell
  • Super Lawyers
  • Multi-Million Dollar Advocates
  • The American Board of Trial Advocates
  • Association of Plaintiff Interstate Trucking Lawyers of America
  • National Trial Lawyers

Here is some information about each of these entities and the type of important attorney recognition they provide:

AVVO

Avvo calculates ratings based on publicly available data and the information the attorneys provide in their Avvo profiles.  The public data used to calculate ratings includes information from bar associations, regulatory agencies, attorney websites and court records.  This information, plus the material in the attorney-supplied profile, is then weighted by the Avvo mathematical model to arrive at a rating.  All of the items used to calculate the rating are displayed on the attorney’s Avvo profile.  However, Avvo does not disclose how the mathematical model works so that the system cannot be affected by efforts to “game” the system.  This ensures that the rating process stays neutral and that all rated lawyers are treated equally.  The Avvo Rating reflects the type of information and attorney recognition people find important when looking for an attorney.  The Avvo rating uses a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being the lowest (Extreme Caution) and 10 being the highest (Superb).
