Greenup County Highway Accident Results in Serious Injuries

A Greenup County highway accident on U.S. 23 at the intersection of State Route 827 resulted in serious injuries to several occupants.  The accident involved three pickup trucks, an SUV, two cars and a Kentucky Power truck and occurred right around mid-day Wednesday March 28, 2018.

A vehicle attempted to pull out from SR 827 onto U.S. 23 and made contact with oncoming traffic.  This initial crash resulted in a second accident as vehicles pulled over to help.  Five injury victims were transported to local hospitals, two of them with serious injuries.  The Greenup County highway accident is an example of the risk of a car accident or truck collision at an intersection.   Intersections have become the most common site of injury related car accidents in Kentucky over the past several years according to data provided by the Kentucky State Police.

The forces associated with a side-impact car or truck accident are quite severe, even at a low to moderate speed.  Damage to the neck and spine, and injuries such as broken bones and head wounds often result.  Side impact collisions at higher speed can result in catastrophic and permanent injuries including amputations, paralysis or a wrongful death as the result of a fatal accident.
