More than 60 Motorcyclists out of every 100000 will Die in an Accident

According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 60 motorcyclists out of every 100000 will die in an accident here in the US.  In addition, more than 1% of motorcyclists will suffer an injury while riding this year.  The rate of fatal accidents and wrongful death on a motorcycle is almost six times higher than in a passenger vehicle.

These statistics may seem high, but they speak to the need to be constantly vigilant whenever you ride a motorcycle or are a passenger on a motorcycle.  Contrary to popular belief, most motorcycle accidents and injuries are not the result of negligent operation or recklessness on the part of the biker.  The most common sources of serious injuries and wrongful death associated with motorcycle accidents involve cars who change lanes without looking or pull out in front of an oncoming motorcycle.

Most motorcyclists wear body armor and other safety gear designed to protect them in the event of an accident.  Unfortunately there is simply often not enough time to react and a motorcyclist, or their passenger, are forced to endure serious injuries including :

More than 60 motorcyclists out of every 100000 will die in an accident, and many will result in wrongful death actions.  When a motorcyclist or a passenger loses their life in an accident caused by another driver, it is known in Kentucky as a “wrongful death.”  The personal injury and wrongful death attorneys at Hargadon, Lenihan & Herrington, PLLC each have decades of experience in motorcycle accident, injury and wrongful death cases.  Our proven trial attorneys have been recognized by the legal industry for their skills as trial attorneys and presenting a client’s case to jury as well as the significant amounts they have recovered on behalf of these clients.

We urge all Louisville drivers to exercise caution when changing lanes and pulling out from a parking lot or side street.  Motorcyclists do not have the same protections provided by a passenger car or commercial vehicle.  If you have been injured or lost a loved one in a motorcycle accident in Louisville or across Kentucky we invite you to contact HLH or call (866) 583-9701 to speak personally with one of our experienced personal injury attorneys for a free consultation.
